My Gurukul Memoir!!

The Hard Working Team 🙂 🙂

It was a rainy winter morning; I went for a walk to the ECC (with one of those green umbrellas) to attend a Yoga session (Yeah, I do all that stuff) and there I found a bottle floating in the swimming pool with a letter inside it. I took it out and saw the recruitment mailer for Gurukul. That was how I came to know about it. Ok, that was stupid and lame. I’ll tell the real story now. The fact is, I never really chose to be in Gurukul. Like those dragon things in “Avatar”, Gurukul chose me. That is cheesy I understand and I’ll stop boring you. Let’s get into business.

Like every other trainee inside the campus, I got the recruitment mail(er) and I didn’t shift+delete it like at least 99.9% of you usually do. I am not sure why I felt like applying for it in the first place; perhaps I was looking for something that I would enjoy doing (unlike Programming :P). Whatever may be the reason, I did apply and the rest was history. We ended up making one of the best Gurukul editions till date and I had something to boast about in front of the pretty Mallu girls in my class. (No offence)

(Thank you Rishav, D-cube, Megha and Kamalesh for that awesome induction session in CCD)

I was named “Joker of the Pack” by Dipannita for some reason but that was totally a blunder as most of the time I am serious as hell. I am like one of those Neo-Nazi kinds in “American History-X” and I even remember beating up a 6 feet guy once who then became two 3 feet midgets…True Story. I even wrote several (Fake) News articles back when I was in GEC-1 to bring out several conspiracies and scandals.

After writing a couple of articles for the Dreams edition (Remember reading the Pinakini Express??), I was totally pumped up for the next edition and had decided to write a minimum of 10 articles. Regarding the making of the edition, I should first talk about the team meetings we had (mostly through the spam mails that kept filling everybody’s inboxes) in trying to come up with the theme. It took us longer than the days we worked after we decided upon the theme finally. “Halloween” was unanimously Okayed soon after Shibani cleverly blended “Spooky” and “Magic” together. As for me, I was so dedicated that I finished writing most of my articles even before the theme was selected. Okay, that wasn’t dedication. It was because I had no idea what the educators were teaching and had no interest to learn either so I was busy writing during the classes.

As the best things always take their time, there was a delay during the making of the edition (It had nothing to do with me, I swear). But like Rajini sir said, “Late ga ochina latest ga ravali” (No translation required). The overwhelming response that we got for the edition was fantabulosly (I just made that up) amazing. Thank you Ram for proof reading my articles. Considering how bad my English is, that would’ve been a pain in the ass. As Gurukul was the only job I took up seriously while I was there in Mysore, the response my articles got gave me wings (either that or the Red Bull that I used to drink).

I swear… I worked so hard 😛

Speaking from the heart, Gurukul for me is all about the experience. It was my first shot at writing for a news letter or in that case writing for anything other than my blog. So, at a personal level I took it up as a challenge. Even though I usually preferred working alone, the entire experience of making new friends and working as a team was new and exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent in Saturn, even if most of the time all we spoke was about how gay Harry Potter was and about that guy who was stalking Lavanya ;).  Right from the early meetings for making the contributions mail(er) to the day of that awesome photoshoot, it was no doubt an unforgettable experience for me personally.

Regarding the New edition, I was told that the new team is very talented (that we were), punctual and dedicated (Err… I guess we were :P). So, I’m pretty sure they’ve done a great job. Congrats people and All the Best for the next editions as well. Okay then this is Sudhams signing off for the last time for Gurukul. I wish you all a Happy New Year. May you never run out of fun and laughter… Cheers.

P.s… The irony is that after all the efforts that went into making the Halloween edition; I left Infosys on the day before the launch of the Edition. I never saw the edition myself.
